‣ Do you transport food products?
Yes, in fact, as an Iron Apple certified carrier food is our specialty. We excel at shipping food grade products using clean and regularly inspected trailers that meet your shipping requirements using temperature-controlled or dry van trailers.
‣ Do you handle hazardous materials?
Yes, we are a HazMat certified carrier. Your HazMat product can be transported using temperature-controlled or dry van trailers.
‣ Where do you ship to?
We ship to and from Canadian and US destinations, and our unique location – in the centre of North America – gives you a unique advantage to get your shipment where it needs to go on time.
‣ Where are you located?
Portage la Prairie is a small city in southern Manitoba, 75km west of Winnipeg, and located exactly in the centre point between Saskatchewan and Ontario. See our map here.
‣ How big is your operation?
We have a fleet of 120 trucks pulling 160 reefers and vans and we handle all types of loads and operating situations. We have warehousing options, wash bays, and full-service truck maintenance services.

‣ I enjoy driving, but desire my autonomy as well. What kinds of benefits can you give me?
We understand completely. Owner Bernie Driedger uses his first-hand experience as a truck driver to help support Portage Transport employees. We desire to work with you and your optimal drive assignments - no forced dispatch! We have a Passenger Rider Program, so you can bring someone along with you to “share the load” and ride along in the truck with you. We also have a Pet Program and are open to working with you to increase your job satisfaction.

‣ How long have you been in business?
On August 31, 1998, Portage Transport Service became Portage Transport Inc. (1998), owned and operated by Bernie and Liz Driedger. We have shown steady, consistent growth for over 20 years and have a solid reputation as a vibrant, growing company.
‣ Can I track my shipment online?
Yes, we have an online Load Tracker where you just need a username and password and then you’re all set!
‣ Are you a bonded carrier?
Yes, we are a US-Canada bonded carrier so we can bring goods into Canada to an authorized location without customs release and being in the very heart of the continent is an ideal position from which to arrange shipping. You can use us like a fast-track shipping lane to get your shipment where it needs to go as fast as possible.
‣ I don’t have a full truckload. Is that OK?
Yes, we offer both Less-Than-Truckload (LTL) and Full Truckload (FTL) transportation and our rates on both types of transport are competitive.
‣ Do you have a warehouse?
Yes, and our logistics team helps ensure the smoothness of your transport experience. We handle and deliver food grade goods safely with our new temperature-controlled and certified food-safe warehouse accommodations.
‣ What if my truck breaks down?
We have a full service maintenance facility for trucks and trailers that provides washing services, oil changes, wheel alignments, wheel balancing, engine and clutch repair, and more. Our shop staff is committed to excellent service and certified safety. Our parts inventory is well organized and maintained. We stock parts for most highway tractors and trailers, which allows us to work more quickly and efficiently. This setup gets you back on the road more quickly, too – saving you money.
‣ Do you do repairs for other trucks and trailers?
YES, this full-service shop is available to outside customers. Welcome! Let us service your trucks and trailers to the same standard that we hold our own. Here, you are treated like family!
‣ Do you have an axle scale?
Yes, our axle scale is easily accessible and accurate. Knowing your load weight means you are better informed to comply with legal weight limits. Nobody wants to be detained or incur needless fines. Ensuring your load is compliant gives you peace of mind and could save you significant time and money.
‣ How can I help be an effective shipper?
Creating the most efficient transport experience is a partnership. Time is money and for the greatest benefit to your shipping time, time spent at the dock and time at the gate can be cut down. Accurate assessment of pick-up or delivery times increases the productivity of the shipping process. And of course, we appreciate any amount of lead-time you can give us.
